Oak Class

In the Oak Class, the child is an independent capable young person and desires to go beyond the classroom. The curriculum here will link school-based learning to the child's environment in a bigger way. Children will work either independently or in small groups to apply higher level thinking skills of analysis, evaluation and synthesis to many different concepts, many of which have aleady been introduced to the child through the teaching of the Great Lessons in the Willow Class and are now studied in more depth.

Project work is a large feature of the 9-12 curriculum, and the child will regularly study, explore, create, write about and present to the class on topics which interest them. Their research skills and ability to use IT will be perfected. Often, these projects will cover many subjects of the curriculum. For example, a study on cars may encompass many different subjects: history of cars, the mechanics and science behind cars, transportation needs, design of cars, maths of distance and speed, the geography of where cars are made, creating adverts or writing about different types of cars cover many language skills. Studies of a continent will cover many subjects, as will a child's study of dolphins, artists, and the solar system.

Children in this class will also spend time preparing to move on to secondary education.
